These classes are approved for Eight (8) hours of Continuing Education Units by the TCEQ or meet the ASLA/TBA requirements, unless otherwise noted..

All CEU classes include manual, certificates, and lunch.

The Basic Irrigation Systems and Design workshop are good for eight (8) hours for each day attended.  You do not have to attend all of the days, just the days you need for CEU's.

January 22               Moody                                                 8 CEU's                    Irrigation Design Utilizing Software                                                      $195.00  

This class will demonstrate how computer software can aid the irrigator in irrigation design process.  This process will allow an irrigator to reduce their design times substantially as well as increasing the accuracy of the design.  The software will allow the irrigator to deploy the automatic mode, where it will do the majority of the calculations.  It can also be deployed in the manual mode where the irrigator picks and chooses what part of the irrigation design they would like assistance on.  The software will calculate safe flow rates of the water source, select the backflow device, calculate the most perfect head spacing, create balanced irrigation zones, size the valves, provide a complete ET based irrigation schedule, and provide a complete hydraulic statement.  There are many more features to list here.  The class will utilize an LCD projector to display all the items and techniques.  We will discuss the entire design process as defined by the TCEQ.  If you are not into the computer technology phase of irrigation, this will still be an excellent overview of the irrigation design process.  If you have a laptop, bring it and your can the program on your laptop to follow along in class.  There is no requirement for you to bring a laptop.

January 23        Temple/Waco/Killeen                                      8 CEU's               Central Control and Two Wire                                                                      $195.00  

The class will focus on the irrigation application of Central Control. This will be both a primer on the fundamentals of Central Control and will address the key elements of what makes a Central Control a Central Control.  We will look at both the conventional systems and "Two-Wire" systems and explain the difference as well as look at pros and cons of each type.  We will discuss the many methods of communications available for central control including the multiple new "APPS" that are available for smart phones.  We will discuss all the key components such as pulse decoders, weather stations, N.O. (Normally Open) valves, N.C. (Normally Closed) valves, flow sensors, pressure sensors, and moisture sensors.  We will discuss the key element of grounding and differentiate between "Earth Ground" and grounding associated with basic electricity.  We will discuss the use of a Megger and the many different methods of obtaining a solid ground.  Electrical wire connections will be discussed.

February 12            San Antonio                                              8 CEU's                    Sales and Marketing                                                                                $195.00  

This class will address the concept of Sales and Marketing to the irrigation customer.  It will show the irrigator how to blend in technical sales to the irrigation customer and how to educate the customer on water conservation, ET based scheduling, and the key items used in their irrigation system.  Some of these items are pressure regulation equipment, sophisticated controllers, sensors, drip, optimized design and the importance of head to head spacing and scheduling.  This class will help you link the TCEQ mandates to the sales of your irrigation system and link them to your client.  The marketing portion will show you positive ways in which you can project a positive image on your company while promoting an extremely efficient irrigation system that will be code compliant and by extension will cost more .  We will address the cost benefits and methods in which you can use to educative the customer and demonstrate how the more efficient system, albeit is more expensive, will provide a cost savings in water savings.

February 15                     Houston                                       8 CEU's               Irrigation Installation for Supervisory Personnel                                       $195.00  

This workshop is targeted towards the irrigator who is involved from the installation aspect of the irrigation system.  This workshop will start at the "Reading/Underststanding" of the Blue Print and will end at the programming of the controller.  This workshop will discuss many of the interactions between the irrigator and others; such as pulling permits, having the backflow device certified, determining and meeting the local codes, and the final inspections with the client, code official, or owners' representative or agent.  This will workshop will address many techniques that range from correct valve installation, thrust blocking, Two (2) wire installation, and ohming (Electrical measurement with multi-meter) of the irrigation systems electrical system.

 

February 19,20,21,26,27,28          Moody                           48 CEU's             Basic Irrigation Systems and Design - CEU-Class                                                      $585.00

**This course will work for CEU's for any of the days.  The 26th,27th,28th are the best days for CEU's

This class is the hydraulics section of the Basic Irrigation Systems and Design Class.

This forty eight (48) hour class is a pre-requisite for those individuals who are wanting to become a licensed irrigator.  This class covers all of the elements in the landscape irrigation design process.  It addresses the key items that are on the TCEQ tests on; Design, Hydraulics, Backflow, and General Irrigation Knowledge.  The attendees will do at least three designs in the class plus the exit design provided by the TCEQ.  Hydraulics is stressed in the class, as this is the statistically most failed section of the exam process. There will be several comprehensive hydraulic problems that the student will have to solve. This will ensure they fully comprehend Hydraulics and the associated components.  This will also provide the student with "snap shot" of their understanding of hydraulics.  The class utilizes the 585 book "Basic Irrigation Systems and Design".  The instructor for the class is also the author of the book.  Each student will be provided with additional homework and support after the class is over.  This class is also approved for CEU's for current licensed Irrigators.   We will be doing multiple hydraulic exercises and heavy emphasis on the charts used in hydraulics.  (Pipe, meters, backflow, and valves)  We will be doing pipe sizing, component sizing, velocity calculations,  "Design Pressure Calculations" and "Actual Head Pressure Calculations".  This will be an excellent review for those who have not performed hydraulics on a regular basis.  Bring a calculator and an engineer scale.  All other materials will be provided.

March 5,6,12,13,14              Houston                          48 CEU's                            Basic Irrigation Systems and Design                                                              $585.00

This class will address a very comprehensive view of irrigation scheduling from the commercial perspective.  With that being said, residential will be addressed.  We will look at the many challenges facing large scale systems such as high number of zones verses limited watering windows, limited water resources, and unknown precipitation rates.  We will address spray, rotator, rotor and drip applications as well as those systems that have all kinds of product mixed in the zones.  Multiple methods of determining precipitation will be discussed.  We will discuss benefits of ET based scheduling and sensor based scheduling.  We will look at software options available to schedule systems.  We will spend some time to addressing schedules that have been negatively impacted by tightened water restrictions, watering windows, and excessive zones.  We will discuss options to evaluate landscape needs as it relates to the watering window available.  We will discuss the well being of the landscape material and options available to the landscape irrigator.  Scheduling software will be utilized.

This class is a the two day pre-requisite to becoming a Texas Licensed Irrigation Technician.  (This class can be used for CEU's and is an excellent refresher for I.T.'s

This sixteen (16) hour class is a pre-requisite for those individuals who are wanting to become a licensed Irrigation Technician.  This class covers all of the elements in the landscape irrigation technician process.  It addresses the key items that are on the TCEQ tests on; Design, Hydraulics, Backflow, Laws, Scheduling, and General Irrigation Knowledge.  We will do irrigation scheduling and basic hydraulic in the class.  This class will also serve as 16 hours of CEU's for current licensed irrigators or irrigation technicians.  Course includes manual and course certificate.
